I am Canadian born and initially trained in finance, working as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst for over 20 years in Canada, Hong Kong and London, while raising four children.
I have always had a strong interest in food and health, but that increased substantially when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in my mid-forties. I made a full recovery, but the experience made me reconsider my diet and lifestyle, and motivated me to learn how nutrition impacted my health, eventually leading to a completely new career.
I have a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy (Dist) from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, and Bachelor of Science (1st Cl Hons) in Nutritional Therapy (CNELM/Middlesex University). I am also a Certified Practitioner of the Institute for Functional Medicine in the USA. Gaining this qualification required attending Advanced Practice Modules in Clinical Practice, Gastrointestinal Health, Immune Function, Hormones, Detoxification, Cardiometabolic Systems and Energy, as well as a comprehensive examination and case submission. Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-biology approach and taking into account the environmental, genetic, dietary and lifestyle factors influencing the health of each individual. For more information on the functional medicine approach see www.functionalmedicine.org
I am a member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I am also a registered Metabolic Balance ® weight management coach.
I work mainly from my home clinic in Chiddingstone, Kent. I am also available for Skype and telephone consultations.
